A new chapter for MyActive New Mills: £3.7m redevelopment announced

Following High Peak Borough Council’s announcement, we’re pleased to share plans for a £3.7 million redevelopment of MyActive New Mills.

The investment will create improved spaces to help more people move, feel better and connect with others, with facilities designed to support the community’s health and wellbeing.

What’s planned?

  • An expanded fitness gym with an additional 20 equipment spaces.
  • A new multi-use studio for up to 25 people.
  • A refurbished spin studio.
  • A new community wellness suite.
  • Refurbished dry changing facilities and a new reception area.
  • Six new bike parking hoops and a shelter.
  • A new Changing Places facility, providing additional space and specialist equipment for people who need it.

What happens during the work?

The redevelopment will be delivered in phases. There will be temporary partial closures and changes to some services, and we will maintain as many services as possible while the improvements take place.

The current draft programme anticipates main construction starting in late November 2026, with main works completing in June 2027. These are provisional construction timings. Equipment installation and operational preparations will follow, and we will confirm when the improved facilities are ready to open.

Temporary gym arrangements are being planned to help members continue training. We will share confirmed locations, access arrangements and any changes to activities directly with affected customers before they take effect.

The redevelopment also means the existing squash courts will be removed. We recognise the impact on players and the club. The Council has been working with the squash club to support alternative options, including a small grant to help its proposed transition to an existing facility.

Ian Sales, Head of Operations at MyActive, said:

"This is an important investment in the future of MyActive New Mills and the communities we serve. The redevelopment will allow us to offer improved fitness facilities, more opportunities for group exercise, and dedicated spaces that support health and wellbeing."

“Our focus throughout the project will be on supporting our members, keeping people active, and maintaining as many services as possible while the improvements take place.”

Thank you for your patience and support as we prepare for this next chapter. We will keep this page updated and share practical information by email, on our social channels and in the centre.
