Empowering Women Through Strength at MyActive Glossop

MyActive Glossop’s 10 week Women’s Weights programme has recently come to a successful close, with 8 dedicated participants attending women only sessions every Tuesday and Thursday.

Led by our expert instructors Sarah and Becky, the programme focused on helping women feel comfortable in the gym, learn correct technique and build both strength and confidence in a supportive and welcoming environment.

The results have been fantastic! Not only physically but mentally and socially too.

Participant Julie shared:

“The course has been very enjoyable. I have been able to lose weight and gain muscle whilst also becoming part of a supportive group of friends.”

Across the 10 weeks, every participant made measurable improvements in balance and mobility, particularly in the neck, shoulders, hips and ankle flexion. The group also saw significant changes in body composition, including increased muscle mass and quality, reduced fat mass, improved hydration and enhanced bone mineral content - an especially important factor for women as they age.

Beyond the physical results, confidence levels soared. Participants reported feeling more comfortable using gym equipment, including weight machines, cardio equipment and free weights, as well as taking part in larger group exercise classes.

Louise highlighted the impact on her confidence:

“I feel more confident using the specialist gym equipment, so much so that I can now challenge myself with weights to progress my fitness and strength further, while also asking for help and guidance from the supportive MyActive team if required.”

Regular attendance also helped participants build lasting habits. Julie noted how the programme supported her in developing a consistent routine and embedding positive movement into her lifestyle.

Pam also praised the programme, highlighting how supportive and knowledgeable both Sarah and Becky were throughout the sessions.

All of these improvements came from one key focus: consistent, structured weight training in a supportive environment.
