Celebrating the reopening of refreshed MyActive Glossop

Members and councillors came together this morning to celebrate the reopening of the gym spaces at MyActive Glossop, following essential works and a full refresh of the space.

The improvements, completed in partnership with High Peak Borough Council, include:

  • Full redecoration for a brighter, modern look
  • Improved airflow and comfort across the gym floor
  • A new layout with brand-new strength and functional training kit, including benches, kettlebells and a Concept2 strength erg machine

Both the upstairs and downstairs gym spaces were reopened to members after a Sneak Peek event. Guests enjoyed guided tours, equipment demonstrations, and goody bags before the ribbon was cut to welcome everyone back officially.

Aidan Hall, Contract Manager at MyActive, said:
“We’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we carried out this important work. The new gym spaces look fantastic, and it’s brilliant to see members here today enjoying the improvements. This is all about building back stronger for our Glossop community, providing spaces that feel brighter, more welcoming, and inspiring for everyone to stay active.”

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, joined members for the re-opening on Wednesday morning.

He said: “It’s great to see people back – I know it’s been a frustrating time for everyone who uses the centre, and for our MyActive colleagues, and I’d like to thank everyone for their patience.

“The new equipment was due to be installed before the building survey revealed the essential building repairs and maintenance that we have had to carry out, but I hope that, together with the improved layout and new, fresh look, people will see we’re serious about investing in our leisure centres and the amenities we provide for our communities.

“These new spaces look fantastic and we’re working on plans to refresh other areas of the building to match the new-look gym areas.”

The Council established MyActive to run High Peak’s three leisure centres and the services they provide in October last year, along with similar facilities with Strategic Alliance Partner, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

Councillor Greenhalgh added: “When we set up the Council-owned company, we were clear that investing in the buildings, equipment and facilities, and services they provide was our priority.

“All three leisure centres in High Peak play a vital role in the health, wellbeing and social lives of our communities. Moving more makes such a difference, physically and mentally, so we want to ensure everyone has access to facilities that help us all live healthier lifestyles in modern, welcoming, fit-for-purpose spaces and that’s what we’re focused on delivering.”

The reopening follows a series of works across the centre, with further improvements planned to the studio and squash courts over the coming weeks.
